A vision is your higher goal. Having a vision for your future is very important. You cannot just hope for the best with no intention. You might plan as far as next month or even a year, but do you plan 5, 10 or even 20 years ahead? I have been writing visions for more than 10 years. A vision gives you a sense of purpose and brings more meaning to your life. People with no vision tend to just follow the crowd and go with the flow.
Where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
The one question that often comes up in interviews is "Where do you plan to be in 5 or 10 years from now?" The general answers are - "I will be progressing within this company" or "I'll be doing your job". Do you really want to pretend to yourself and give the answer you think people want to hear? Do you want follow someone else's vision? This happens a lot - people end up in professions because it was societally accepted yet they are in pain every day because they hate their job.
Companies and businesses have a vision
The company or business you work for has a higher vision. Every department has its own vision that is in alignment with the overall vision. If you are not in allignment with the company's vision or their values, then you might need to reflect if this company is the right fit for you. You can really tell when employees are passionate about the place they work as they really are excited about the products and services and they act like a promotor for their company. You need to be passionate about what you are doing in order to feel fulfilled and alive.
